On 11 1943 it was redesignated the 1st Air Support Communications Squadron and on 1 1944, redesignated as the 1st Tactical Air Communications Squadron. After several combat campaigns during World War II, the unit was inactivated October 1945. It was reactivated on 15 1992 as the 1st Air Support Group and subsequently redesignated to its current name on 1 July 1994. The 1st ASOG is composed of over 100 Air Force personnel who directly support the U.S. Army several different ways. Units assigned to the group include the 5th Air Support Operations Squadron, the 1st Weather Squadron, 8th Air Support Operations Flight, and the 111th Air Support Operations Center.
